How far can a wireless network transmit?

  pilsbury 22:50 31 May 2003

I want to network 3 PCs. Two are close together in a building 200 yards away from the third. The third PC is also the intended boradband access point. The buildings have a clear line of site.
Any suggestions?

There should be no problem with the short distance you have. I believe the longest distance is around 1.5 miles with a clear line of site.

Cheers. But most of these things have an internal transmitter - (correct?) and will be intended for use within the same building. Will I have to mount an external antenna? Although the buildings have a clear line of site, the PCs themselves are of course hidden by several layers of bricks and plasterboard...

As you will see if you click here the cards have a built in antenna. Whether this is strong enough to go 200+ I am not sure.
