How do you change drive letters in XP?

  [DELETED] 13:05 19 Oct 2003

Sorry Guys, I know this has been done before, but like I have said many times, the search engine doesn't work for me. I have just spent 15 minutes typing all sorts of keywords in but all I get is "No matches found". I have a friend who has XP and has 2 hard drives fitted and 2 CDs fitted. It runs C: Main hard drive, D: CD Rewriter, E: DVD/CD, the F: 2nd hard drive.

Would like both hard drives to follow on, C: and D: Can it be done? I don't have XP and Win98SE does it automatically.

Get him/her to go to start, run and type:

Click ok.

Right click the optical drives (one at a time) and click "Change drive letter and paths..."

Then click "Change" Give the drives X and Y letters.

Then "D" will become available.

Do the same for the hard drive and you'll see D is now available.

Leave the optics as X and Y or change to E and F as above.

C cannot be changed.

I htink you need to go into Control panel and then admistritive tools, then computer management and choose then select disk management.

control panel/administrative tools/computer management/disk management

right click the drive and select change drive letters and paths.

Thanks Guys. All noted. He doesn't need to change the C: drive but would just like Hard drives first then CDs.
