How do I reduce the size of a photo file please?

  Halmer 22:05 13 Jun 2005

I tried to send a photo to the BBC picture of Britain competition but it was rejected because it exceeds the maximum size of 1.5MB by 0.2 MB.

I copied and cropped the photo using Kodak software thinking that it would reduce the file size by at least the required 0.2MB but unfortunately the file size has increased to 3.28MB for some reason!!

Interesting. I've got XP and can't see any option to re-size?

This works nicely. You learn something new every day.

I did what Stuartli suggested and it worked. Only problem now is that I can't remember where the BBC site is!!

it has to be a jpeg file and it has been converted to a bmp file whatever that is.

bmp is a bitmap - usually quite large files.

Choose Save As and make sure that jpg is selected as the file type.

Mr Beline

You appear to have doubts about my suggestion regarding resizing windows using WindowsXP. If you use google then type in the google search box. Resizing Pictures. The first reference takes you to a website click here which explains in much more details this very simple method which I suggested.

Hope this is of some help.
