I just bought a domain name and I intend to point it at my existing site.
My host is charging me for Registering the domain name, and now wants and extra £10 to MAP it (point it to) to the existing hosted account.
Is this normal?
In a word NO.
Most Domain registrants have an online control panel for the domain which allows you to domain forward if you wish. I guess it might depend on who you have lodged your domain with.
I'm a bit puzzled by this one. Did the existing site not have a domain name? Was it one associated with an ISP?
It may have been easier to transfer the site to the new host.
Agree with alanrwood, you should be able to do that from your control panel. If the charge is a one off to do it for you then it is not unreasonable.
If you need more help, a few more details, such as hosting company, would help.
