Homepage hijack

  greywwolf 19:35 14 Dec 2003

My homepage has been hijacked by something
calling itself "fastsearch". I continue
to alter my hompage back to my isp`s homepage,
but every time I reload internet explorer
"Fastsearch" returns. Any solution folks?

Try CoolWebShredder click here

Else AdAware click here

and / or

SpyBot click here

There must be a program on your computer called fastsearch. Go to search ask it. and that should tell you where it is. If so, now delete it. OR go into control panel .. add & remove programs..see if the program is there if so delete it. now should be OK !!

Hello all,
Thanks for the help. I installed Spybot, updated
its software, ran it and it seems to have had
some effect. "fastsearch" no longer loads, but
Internet Explorer now, occasionally, defaults
to something called "webcounter". The browser
window is blank though.
Any ideas? Could this be a residual issue and
no real threat?

Get HijackThis click here Run it, scan and tick all instances of "webcounter". Then "Fix Checked"

Or Scan, Save Log and post here (or e-mail to me) and we'll tell you what to remove...

Before that try CoolWebShredder from the same page....

Regarding the above,I was optimistic. Fastsearch
has returned. However, after I have run spybot,
"fastsearch" vanishes and is replaced by
"webcounter" in the address but internet explorer is now blank. It seems "spybot" is
doing something to alter things but not removing
the "hijacker" totally.

Please feel free to use HijackThis as outlined above.

Empty your temp/temporary internet files then run CoolWebShredder again if that fails to fix it , do as Jester2K II suggested as outlined above.
