Home Server Specification

I'm looking at getting a Windows Home Server soon. Only for simple things like a backup drive, and a local test web server.
I'm wondering if my spec is enough, since i'm looking at building this from scratch for as cheap as possible.
So far I have:
Intel 2.6GHz Dual Core CPU

Motherboard with Gigabit LAN

350W PSU

80GB ST380020A ATA HDD
2TB USB External Drive

My main concerns are the RAM, and internal HDD. I don't know if 512MB will be enough, or if I should pay a bit more and get 2GB? The internal HDD is very slow, I just tested it with a high of around 28MB/s read speed, something that feels very slow. I know I could just upgrade after some time, but it still seems a bit slow for now?
I am hoping for this to be a slim-form PC, hopefully as quite as possible :)
Any feedback would be great, I'm hopefully using Windows Home Server 2008/2011.
