Home page problem

  1Ssam 12:00 03 Dec 2008

I have always used `about Blank` for my home page . For some unknown reason, every time I go online now, although my `address` starts as `about blank` it quickly changes to w--renamehomepage.com
and that takes me to some advertisments for security software. It is really annoying. I have tried everything I know to stop it but it still persists. Any help would be appreciated.

This is a fraudulent website - definite malware.
You can download and run a removal tool from here

is not a good choice for your home page. It can refer to an empty web page, but there is also malware called by the same name.

You're best to use something else as your home page. You probably know how to do this, but just in case you don't (assuming you use IE):

Launch Internet Explorer
Click Tools>Internet Options>General tab
Type the url of your preferred home page in the box under the heading "Home page". Click OK.

But be sure that you've got rid of the malware,as explained by 1Ssam, first.

Thank you all very much for your help, problem resolved. It cost a few pounds but it also got rid of a load of other rubbish so it was worth it.

Many thanks 1Ssam
