High pitched noise being sent to amp by soundcard

A couple of times on boot up into the Windows login screen my PC has emitted a horrible high pitched stuttering sound to my hi fi amp which is connected to the line out jack of the mobo. Its an ASUS P8Z68- V LE motherboard with onboard sound and I am running Win 7 64 bit with 8Gb RAM. On both occasions when I boot up again it works fine!I've had the Chillblast PC for around 3 years with no similar problems

Be grateful if anyone has any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Are you using a Mic? Possibly lower the recording level or mute it. Worth a try as a screeching sound can be feedback from the Mic. The only thing I can think of.

Thanks - that's a possibility as I was trying to get a signal from the amp on the line in and couldn't so tried the mic input so I had unmuted it - will try that solution out after the holiday when I'm back on the PC - odd that it doesn't always do it though.
