Is it possible to change the welcome screen where you sign on in XP to a different picture. I know you could alter the Win ME and 98 boot screen so I was just wondering if it is poss in XP. If yes how do you do it.

Not a simple operation as it is in 98/ME.

Or there are a few shareware programs available to accomplish this.

As far as I know you can only turn the welcome screen on or off.
To access this click start-Help & Support, type Welcome screen in the search box and click the arrow at the end of the search box.

you dont need any programs to accomplish this, follow see my link above.

in your windows xp system32 directory you will find 2 files, ntoskrnl.exe(boot screen) and logonui.exe(logon screen)copy and save your originals to a floppy disk for safe keeping.

download your new boot or logon screen and save to the desktop or somewhere handy.

boot into safe mode and cut n paste the new ones into the system32 will say already exists do you want to replace? click yes.easy pesy :-)

as above keep the old ones on a floppy disk and replace if you need to as above.
