Hi,

My Cd rom has given up the ghost and I want to buy an external one to connect via USB. (I know it is chaeper to fit an internal one, but I would rather not open up my computer)! Anyway my question is will the external CD rom do all I need, which is only to install new software, and to play and record musuc CD's. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes.

However fitting an internal one might be easier than you think.

As PaulB2005 says, fitting an internal drive is quite straightforward. Generally it's a matter of removing 2 screws either side of the drive and unplugging 2 or 3 connectors, removing the old drive and reversing the procedure to fit the new one.

i must agree with paulb and gongoozler and while your doing it why not upgrade to a dvd burner theyre so cheap.
