Help securing wireless network

Check if your router wireless setup supports MAC address filtering if it does as most do then enable it by entering the MAC addresses from each of your wireless adaptors to get this on XP goto start then RUN in the box type cmd and click OK, this will bring up a black DOS type window at the flashing cursor type ipconfig /all

(that is ipconfig(space)/all)

you are looking for the Physical Address of your wireless adaptor it will look something like this

00-02-7f-03-4f-09 (make notes)

repeat this on all the machines that connect to the wireless router

once you have then all enter then into the MAC address filter area in your router setup (security section usually)

a save settings and reboot is usually required to make it work

this action will prevent any machine that does not have a recognised MAC address from connecting to your router

if you also turn on WEP or one of it`s many other varients, you should have reasonably secure system

Cheers HC
