Help required to set up wireless router

  Tracywt2 16:34 13 Apr 2009

Hi. I'm really not very technical and desperately need help to set up a wireless connection. I have installed a Be;kin wireless adapter and now need to set up the router which is an Orange Siemens Gigaset SE572. I did try to set this up previously but put in an incorrect code when it asked for the WEP. It should have been the serial number from the unit, however I just used my normal internet password. How can I resolve this? Also, do I still need the modem or does the router replace this? Any help is gratefully rec'd.

I take it you have a desktop PC, if this is the case, then yes the router does replace your existing modem.

However as for how best you should go about setting up your wireless connection, you would do better talking to the people who specialise in this. I suggest you close down this thread and open a new one in the 'Networking' forum.

To close this thread scroll down till you see a button on the right with 'Resplved' on it and an empty box along side of it. Click the box and a tick will appear, then click 'Resolved'

On the righthand side of this page you will see a list of the 'Forums', scroll down and click on 'Networking' :¬]

Xp or Vista?

XP = Start -settings - network settings - wireless connection - right click select properties - wireless networks tab - preferred networks box click you router name - properties - Network key - type in the correct number - click OK.
