Help me to revamp my PC

  Playdo 14:02 09 Nov 2010

I'm looking to swap out a few parts of my PC and make it more powerful as I mainly use it for 3D graphics (CG). I'd like to future-proof it too. I know a bit about computers, but not much, so I'd really appreciate advice on what can be done with this. Ideally I'd like to be able to get up to 12+ GB RAM and maybe even 8+ cores. Can this be done or, if not, what would be the best upgrade path?

Here's what I have at present:

- Coolermaster 460W Dual 12V Rail Power Supply

- Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 CPU

- Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro

- 2 x Kingston 2GB PC6400 DDR2 RAM

- nVidia 8800GT 1GB Super PCI-E Graphics Card

- 500GB SATA 7200RPM Hard Drive

- Samsung 22X Dual Layer SATA DVD +/- Rewriter

you do not say what your operating system is? Only 64 bit can handle and use correctly above 3.6 GB of ram.
