Help-I have broken my computer

  ianeon 19:41 12 Mar 2004

I run winxp - I have been "playing" - I have broken it - everytime I try to open a programme I get the message "windows cannot open this file" etc. etc.shortcuts don't work, sfc doesn't, I can't open anything from "explorer"- consequently I cannot restore to an earlier point or repair the errors. Before I make things worse by fiddling, could someone point me in the right direction of a return to sanity - Thank you - Ian

Try to boot into safe mode (click F8 while booting) then run System Restore.

Thank you for that advice - it worked well - Ian

Alternatively try booting to the advanced startup menu (f8 or if this just brings up a boot menu f5)

From there select last known good configuration
