I formatted a laptop HDD a while ago and re-installed the OS, is it possible that I could still recover some of the photos that were on it pre the re-install ?

Its found over 7000 images, I know for a fact that I didnt have that many on a 18gb HDD, where the heck will I view these ?

Most of them will be Icon images as in the icon bar at the top of this page for instance - but others may well be your pics, or at least some of them. You will find them in the DIR Folder - go to My Computer>C:>Program Files>DIR ... you can save those that are any good to your normal My Pictures folder, or whatever.

PS - you can of course, then delete any that you don't want to keep.

DIR will be shown as Digital Image Recovery in your Program Files folder.
