A computer literate friend believes I have a virus on my hard drive which needs removing and cleaning. I have Norton AV on a S0ny Vaio PCG-ZIWA
Any ideas

Is Norton updated?

McAfee Inc. - Stinger is another option.

Before you scan remember to turn off System Restore. Then scan and afterwards turn system restore back on again.
You could also get a very comprehensive scan by using HOUSE CALL from click here

Why does he/her think that you may have a virus?

As others have said , update and then run your anti virus program , if it cannot remove any virus it finds then post the full name of the virus back on here and we will deal with it from there !
