Hard Drive Upgrade

  Zapit 21:24 25 Aug 2004

I want to replace my 40gb Maxtor with a 160gb Maxtor. Will I be able to attach the new drive as a slave and copy all the data from the old drive to the new one, then remove the old drive and switch the new one to master? I do not want to have to reload all the software if I can avoid it.

You can (supposedly) use the maxblast3 software to do this, available from click here

I've not used ver 3 before as it's a while since I changed hd, but previous vers. were quick and, importantly, easy to use. Hope this helps.

Essentially - Yes. I dont know how you want to do the copying but you probably want a partition copying tool. I use Partition Magic but I beleive Ranish Partition Manager is also good click here

Dont forget to set your boot partition active on your new disk and, if you are using an NT based system (NT, 2000, XP), any special disk assignment letters will have to be redone.

The Danish website I gave in the link does not directly link up. You have to type MaxBlast 3 in the FIND window on the left of the page.
