AMD Radeon Adrenalin release date, new features, compatible graphics cards
For no reason, I decided to download 'Speedfan' utility program today. I was suprised to see that my hard drive temperature was too hot. It is reading 72'C. Prior to it stabilising at 72'C it seemed somewhat erratic, jumping around in big increments.(see copy of temperature log below).
I also downloaded another temperature utility and that reads the same. I have moved the hard drive so there is more airflow around it, but no difference.
Basically I have had this PC for 3 years and only once did it let me down. Some .dll files mysteriously vanished so had to re-install windows. Apart from that it's been faultless.
Is it safe to just carry on with the drive reading 72'C? Or should I install another case fan?
For the record it's a Samsung SV1204H hard drive.

Are you sure that at 04/Sep/2005 16:59:01 it really would have been 3 degrees Celsius????
Contact Samsung - it the sensor is faulty then how would you know when it's really overheating?
I have a pair of Maxtor SATA drives,they get really hot inuse(but nowhere near 70C)so I added an old PSU fan blowing across their tops.If the HD really was running at the Speedfan temp,you would likely remove a few layers of skin from your fingers on contact.I would go with dave's suggestion,and ask the HD makers for advice.
Hmmmm, and 4'and 6'. I think you might be right. A faulty sensor would make sense. I would have thought I would have had some data problems by now if it really was 72'C.
