Hard drive not showing in bios

  triflesterms 13:12 01 Mar 2005

Im having problems getting my pc to recognise my new hard drive, i do a auto detect search but nothing comes up. ive changed cables, ide ports, my hard drive is a maxter 20gb, removed battery.
I have no operating system installed & this is my one & only hard drive.
Hope someone can help.

Have you got the IDE cable the right way round?
The red line should be nearest the power cable on the hard drive and the red line should be near pin 1 on the mother board. (indicated by a 1 or an arrow)
If that doesnt work maybe try a different cable and try the other hard drive in another machine.

I have had similar problems in the past and just keep reinstalling the cable, making sure it is firmly in place, than all of a sudden bingo. Perseverance.
