hard drive master or slave

I have bought a second hand maxtor hard drive model33073U4.How can I tell if it is set to master or slave.On the drive it says cylinders 16383-heads 16-sectors 63-jumper j50-master/single on -slave off.can anyone help? I installed as it was when I bought it,but I just get a clicking noise.Thankyou.chas

If you are useing a maxtor as a second/slave HDD you do not need a bridging block (jumper) at all take it off reinstall HDD making sure all cables are secure and try again..

There should be a jumper on the back of the hard drive,and its a 30 gig Ultra DMA 66 drive by the model number.

The jumpers are - put it on for a master drive or as a single drive on the cable. Take it off for use as a slave.

A continual regular clicking noise very likely means the drive is faulty, I'm afraid.
