hi i currently am running my operating system off of an 80gig hard drive and today i got a new 300 gig hard drive to use for storage and i have put it in my pc as a slave and it is found by bios and works ok in the bios it says 300.1 gig but windows recognises it as only a 279 why is this and is it supposto lose so much i know that a hard drive will lose a little but 21 gig that just seems a bit much as in the disk management and the properties of the hard drive it says tha maximum capacity is 279 gig

That's how they put Gig now instead of 1024Mb as 1Gb they con people, have done it for years saying 1000Mb is 1Gb

Yes thats normal, the bios recognise the whole thing as hard drive. Windows detects the one only pertition whic th eleft of the hard drive is leftto the cach of the hard drive. This is normal, I have a 320 GB drive and mine says 297GB. :-)
