hard drive enclosure

I have a 80gb samsung IDE hard drive that I have taken from my twin tuner digital tv recorder will I be able to use it in my pc or an exteral hard drive enclosure. It seems a shame not to find a use for it.

Yes - but it will need partitioning and formatting

I did exactly that when my Freeview DVD/HDD recorder packed up.
I got one of these

but there are lots of others available.

I found I had a little trouble formatting it as the original format isn't PC compatible, but after two or three attempts it was OK, and I now have a useful 80GB external Hard Drive.

Not so much luck with the DVD drive however, it seems to be of different construction to the normal PC type.

thanks what's the best way to format and partition it?

XP vista or W7 will format it without problems if you connect into the case with jumper set as master.

Look for the drive in Disk management and format from there.

As FB says, connect it internally if possible as that will be free of cost.

But if you have to go for the external route, here's another slightly cheaper option click here - choose Super Saver delivery mode at checkout to keep it under £15. G
