Hard drive compatibility

  Tycho 16:57 28 Dec 2004

Although my aging computer is showing no sings of impending demise I feel that it would be prudent to add a second hard drive just in case my present 10GB HD decides to throw in the towel.

I am consdiering this one:
IDE DiamondMax Plus9 120Gb 2Mb Cache Hard disk Drive ATA133 9.0ms 7200rpm - OEM

The relevent specs of my computer are:
Operating System System Model
Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4 (build 2195)

400 megahertz Intel Pentium II
32 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache
Board: Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. i440BX-8671
Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. 4.51 PG 12/01/98

What do you think?

whatever the system, maxtor have a utility called Maxblast which will enable the drive for use on your system. i used this to install a 20gig drive on an old 133mhz proc system i seem to remember the file is maxblast3.

take a look at maxtors web site for details and instructions.

good luck

after some research it would seem that the mobo should run the hd/ok -though do not expect the high data transfer speeds quoted on the maxtor as they are only justifiable on a mobo with at least an ata133 interface or more -in a nutshell will only run as fast as your mobo will allow -hope this has been of use -regards -hol pol...
