Hard disk filling up

  Jai 21:03 01 Oct 2003

Just a quickie to check before I bomb the puter -
running ME on 6GB with 512 ram. Not much on (only used for kids stuff & internet)but I wondered why I had over 4½gb used. Ran Treesize Pro & it found the _RESTORE folder was holding over 1.7Gb (over 300 cab files between 5 & 6 mb each). I presume these are for the "system restore" jobby, & if so can I delete any over 1 month old? or does ME have its own built in "deleter"? Thanks.

Check the setting for system restore. Windows allocates 12% of your drive to system restore, which in your case should be about 720mb. If you feel you don't have need of it, or don't need as much space allocated you can turn it off, or reduce the allocated space [200mb is the minimum you can allocate]Right click on My Computer then select properties > performance > file system > hard disk to check the size. Same to disable it except select troubleshooting instead of hard disk. System restore points should be cleared as new ones are created based on it's own algorithm
