Hard Disk Capacity Error

  sorceror7374 22:06 16 Dec 2006

I'm running an AMD Athlon XP system to which I've just added a second IDE Hard drive (Samsung SpinPoint 250GB) slaved to the master that's already there and when I booted up with the windows cd in order to partition and format the new drive, it was reading as only 32248 MB in capacity. Any ideas as to how I can fix this to read the full 250 GB capacity?

You do not need to boot with the XP CD. Right click on "My Computer" Manage then on Disc Managment, You can do it all there

The disk is reading as 32248 MB in Disc Management as well.

Check the Drive for jumper limiting disc size

You also need Sp1 or higher to correct this

If its only reading 32G then there is a 32g lmit clip in place on the drive remove the jumper causing this limit.

Cheers everyone! It was definitely a limiting jumper. I thought they were only used for master and slave configs!
