hard disk boot sector invalid????

Ive just got my laptop back from repair. They have fitted me a new hard drive. I have just put the old one in to get all my work of it only for it to say.
hard disk boot sector invalid press H to retryhard disk.
What does this mean.
is there anyway i can get my work back

Sounds like the MBR is corrupt on the drive. If you are Fat32 you can use this click here after loading it to a floppy disc, then start computer with it

PS if you already have a Win98 Boot Floppy. Start with the floppy disc and leave the computer to get to A:\> of the boot floppy then type

FDISK /MBR press enter you will not see anything happen but it should load the other none corrupt MBR file. As there is one at each end of the drive. For such occasions.

Note the space before


Then try reboot. If it does not work try the first post

i dont have a floppy drive can i burn it to a cd. i am running windows xp.

Then all you should need to do is start with the XP CD run Repair and type

Fix /MBR at the Command Prompt

ive put the master cd in and ive gone to standard restore but it asks me that if i go to this option i will lose all programs and personal data.
What now?
