handheld scanner

I would like to buy a handheld scanner. My wife is a student and needs to take the laptop and scanner to uni. I know the faults of handheld scanners but a flat bed is impractical. I only want to scan text and possible low res. pictures. It needs to be wide enough to scan A4 size paper.

I thought that they were no longer made, but someone said you can buy them new. I live in Perth Australia. Can anyone from the motherland help me.

I promise I wont gloat when we beat you at the rugby!

No chance at for the 0z to win at rugby... cricket more than likely....

The older ones where never able to san an A4, you had to go through 2 or 3 passes...

Best thing is to search local computer shop's.

What about a digital camera on macro?

I have been to the pawn shops, I have been to the specialised second hand shops for them and got nothing. Are you saying it is impossible to scan A4 or just annoying!

I have a digital video camera and tried that, in text books you get a bluring of text as the page is shaped!

Mango Grummit,
Thanks for the link, it looks good but my wife needs to scan text books. It might work if you could feed the paper through your self but I imagine that it is motorised, therefore i would damage it after a while. Do you or anyone else have one to tell me. can the bottom come off to allow me to slide the scanner over the page.
