Half Life 2 display problem + Xabre graphics card

Does anyone know if there is a problem with half life 2 and the xaber 200 x20l graphics card? When I run the game the display is scrambled, then I get an error saying "hl2.exe application error at ox241f7c37 reference memory at oxo106f5co. The memory could not be read"
Have tried lowering all the audio and video settings with no joy.

Motherboard is a AOpen AK79D-400VN
512 MB ram
64MB Xabre 200 x20l 8X AGP & run driver versions & (same result)
Direct X 9.0b (I think)
OS = Win xp sp2

Any ideas?

I think your GC cannot cope with the game and you need to upgrade it.

I would say GC is a tad under powered for the job at hand.

Minimum Requirements

1.2 GHz Processor


DirectX 7 level graphics card

Windows 2000/XP/ME/98

Recommended System

2.4 GHz Processor


DirectX 9 level graphics card

Windows 2000/XP

And I think your graphics card has to be 128mb....TT

The Xabre 200 should be all right. HL2 does not require DirectX9 to play, you can play it even with DirectX7.1 - see anandtech's website - and cards as ancient as the venerable G4MX440. I played HL2 on a Radeon 8500 DV and it was more than playable.
