Graphics Card Radeon HD5970 Upgrade

  jcbabd 20:49 12 Oct 2012

I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card, here is my setup:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz

Asus P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3 Motherboard

900W PSU

6144MB RAM

Radeon HD5970 (2Gb) Graphics

1920x1080 display

1 Tb hardrive

For the last 3 years I've been able to max-out all games. My new graphics card needs to do the same, with good FPS, and will last.

Which cards fit the criteria, and of those which is the best value-for-money (in my case)?

Your response will be much appreciated

I had the same problem when I was looking to replace my twin GTX295 in Quad SLi months ago, they've served me so well for over 3 years supporting 25x16 resolution, eventually I went for a Gainward GTX580 3GB Phantom.

Because you're just running on 19x10 resolution so I'd say a GTX670 (680 will be overkill) click here should suit you well (sorry ,can't recommend any Ati cards, haven't used them for years ).

Your motherboard supports PCIe 3.0 x16 (might have to update to the latest bios) , unfortunately not until IvyBridge processors are put into the motherboard will the Graphic card utilize PCI-Express 3.0 capabilities, therefore your GTX670 might work under PCIe 2.0 with the i7 2600K SandyBridge although you may not notice the performance difference.

Thanx for the reply! So a single GPU card beats my old double GPU, impressiv.

So I'd have to upgrade my CPU in order to use PCIe 3.0, that realy sucks and cost too much.

Ok will take your advise. Appreciate it
