Unless you upgraded the 98 install (in which case if you chose the option to save your present setup enabling you to go back) then you will be best to reformat and reinstall 98.

What problems are you having with XP there are many here who can help?

First of all, I'd let you know that if you performed one
of the following operations you will be unable to
uninstall Windows XP to the previous Windows:

1. You did choose NOT to "Back up the previous Windows
files" during installation.

2. You converted FAT32 to NTFS after Windows XP was

3. Your previous Windows is Windows 2000.

4. You removed the uninstallation information from
Add/Remove Programs or manually deleted the Undo folder.

5. The files in the Undo folder were damaged.

Regarding the common uninstallation method from the
Add/Remove Programs control panel, refer to the
following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

If you perform the "removing the uninstallation files"
operation described in the following Microsoft Knowledge
Base article, you will be unable to revert to the
previous Windows:

If you cannot perform the solution described in the

Base article about how to uninstall Windows from DOS

If ALL of the above suggestions do NOT work, try
the following suggestions:

If you are able to boot into Windows XP,

Check whether the backup files exist in the
hard drive:

1. Click Start, and click Control Panel.

2. Double-click Folder Options.

3. Click the View tab.

4. Remove the check mark from the "Hide protected
operating system files", and click Yes to confirm it.
5. Click to choose "Show hidden files and folders", and
click OK.

6. Click Start, and click My Computer.

7. Go to the C:\Undo folder, and check whether the
following backup files exist:

Note: I suppose that the Windows is installed in the C

If the two files exist, continue with these steps to
manually uninstall Windows XP

1. Open the Undo Folder

2. Open

3. Locate extract.exe (Note: There will probably be more
than one listed)

4. Right click Extract.exe and select "Copy".

5. Close all Windows

6. Open My Computer

7. Open C

8. Click on the Edit menu then select "Paste".

9. Click Start, click Run, type CMD, and click OK.

10. After the DOS Prompt appears, type the following

Extract C:\Undo\ /e /y

Copy C:\$win_nt$.~bt\txtsetup.sif

Copy c:\$win_nt$.~bt\bootini.bak

Attrib -h -s -r boot.ini

Ren boot.ini boot.xx

Copy bootini.bak boot.ini

Reboot the computer, and when the boot menu appears,
please select the option "Cancel Windows XP Setup".

If you are unable to boot into Windows XP,

Start the computer using a Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Boot Disk
and take the following steps:

We will need to confirm the proper files are preset in
the C:\undo folder. To confirm the files exist start the
computer using a Windows 9x boot disk and take the
following steps.

CD Undo

DIR /a

Confirm the and files exist in this
directory. If these files are not present we will not be
able to manually uninstall. If the files are present take
the following steps:

Extract c:\undo\ /e /y

Copy C:\$win_nt$.~bt\txtsetup.sif

Copy C:\$win_nt$.~bt\bootini.bak

Attrib -h -s -r boot.ini

Ren boot.ini boot.xx

Copy bootini.bak boot.ini

After these commands are complete remove the disk that
was used to start the system and reboot. When the
computer reboots you will see the boot menu and please
select "Cancel Windows XP Setup".

However I'd ignore all the above if I were you!!
