Game keeps crashing

Sorry about the long post!

I've posted a thread about getting a new graphics card, which was born out of problems i've been having. However, i thought there might be a way to fix it, so here goes:

I've just bought a game (Silent Hunter 4), which seemed to be ok on the min requirements for my system. I've got a P4 3.2ghz, 2gb ram, Dell. I added a Radeon X800 GTO a couple of years ago, which has been working fine on games like Call of Duty 2, Total War Medieval II etc.

However, it keeps crashing about 2-3 mins into playing. I've tried reducing the settings to low on graphics and some other stuff on display in the control panel, without success. The odd time an error has appeared saying something like 'graphics card not responding to drivers', but the system file says it's working fine.

Does anyone think this could be anything else other than the graphics card not being upto the job?

any help much appreciated

could be the game at fault, download and install patches for the game.
