I was offered it with automatic updates yesterday 12/01/2005 but declined.

This download has been updated to include signature version 5680, which is the most current as of January 7, 2005. Customers who have installed Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware prior to this date do not need to re-download. They will receive signature updates as part of their next automatic or manual signature update.

Still in 'Beta' format

Thread also in Consumerwatch Forum on this program

Nowadays especially when using broadband, you need to have antivirus program, a firewall program (Zone Alarm) and several anti-spyware programs like Ad-aware, Spybot Search & Destroy.

I also have Giant Anti-spyware programme before Microsoft bought it over. I have used the programme and found it to be good. Only yesterday I download Microsoft Antispware Beta from click here or click here. Unfortunately it will not install if you use W98.

Thank you that was the sort of information I was seeking, I have 5680 so I will just let it run.

dannyt_96 I already run Adaware and the other usual programs thank you.

( it seems to check if you have a " legal " version of a Windows OS.

  rawprawn 15:29 13 Jan 2005

It checks the legality of Windows OS before you can download, and I can't say I blame Microsoft for that when supplying a free ad in.

  rawprawn 15:39 13 Jan 2005

I have just posted on Consumer watch that it finds and deletes "Searchsquire" which is a false positive from Spybot, so it is best maked as ignore.

you can dowload it without validity check
as I downloaded it here (at work) for my home PC -
