Frustrating boot/sytem hang issues

  csqwared 21:11 13 Jun 2010

When booting from cold the machine goes through most of the boot process and then hangs. Re-boot and the process gets a little further or boots totally. After a little while of usage it will hang again. A further reboot usually solves everything and the machine will run happily all night. I've re-seated and swapped the memory modules into different slots, checked all the cable connections and run each HDD on its own (the other disconnected) but can't bottom this. Only happens when the machine is started from cold. Any clues folks??

Im running XP Home on one HD and Linux Mint on the other and I get the same result with either O/S.

Struggling on cold boots are signs of PSU starting to fail.

Could also be a problem with your hard drive slow to spin up.

Thanks for that. The slow spin up of the hard drive had crossed my mind which is why I've tried both drives individually (the other disconnected). If the PSU is on it's way out could that affect the spin up time?
