frozen computer

My computer caught a virus, I have formated it and installed XP. I have put in more memory so it now has 256 mb ram. It has PC Cillin anti virus but I also installed Norton 2003 and upgraded online. Problem now is the computer freezes up on everything for no reason and I can only turn off at the wall. I think it could be due to having 2 anti virus checkers. Any ideas as I am unable to uninstall due to it freezing up??

Can you start in Safe Mode? Press F8 as it boots.

Not sure about safe mode, I have not tried this yet

It's quite safe. Only a minimum of programs are started, so you should be able to disable the anti-virus 'til you get sorted.

Not a good idea to have two antivirus programmes running. They disagree with each other and the freezing MIGHT be due to your PC's memory being overtaxed.

I seem to have overcome problem, with XP I resolved to date prior to installation of Norton
