Front panel jack doesn't work properly

My front panel will only work when the headphones are plugged in a "special" position like the one in the photo. If I move it, either plugged or unplugged it doesn't work. What could be the problem?

Not making contact properly, could be either the socket or the plug. Try different headphones, if still same fault then I would suspect the socket on pc.

You didn't post a photo...

Headphone Jacks, both Mono and Stereo, have to be fully inserted to make the correct connections.

If the Headphones also have a Mic, on the same Jack-plug, it will have even more segments and will need careful positioning if you are using that type with a Standard Jack Socket

Very probably a combination Headphone / Mic socket as modern pC/ laptops are nowadays you could always get an adaptor
