Freeserve ADSL & Outlook Express

  Zak 20:42 04 Nov 2003

Running Win98, PII system. System decided not to boot into windows or only into safe mode.

I used Drive Image to install on a brand new drive set as master with old drive as slave.

Only problem was that the image is a year old, so had to update IE & OE as well as install ADSL modem driver from FS Broadband Disk.

All working correctly, I can access the internet via IE6, except OE - cannot receive or send mail - error 0X8000CC00E - cannot find server.

I have checked settings, confirmed PC can connect to FS POP3 server via telnet command.

I have uninstalled OE including Register entries, then reinstalled OE6. Set up account afresh and still cannot connect to server.

Please would someone who is on FS Broadband and using OE6 confirm these settings or point me to where I can check these. Can't find on FS site.

Account Name:

Server Tab

Advanced Tab:

SMTP: 5106

POP3: 5100

I have of course checked password for correctness when using Telnet command.

Finally anyone have any further ideas? I am at my wits end!

Thanks The Lights Are On for your reply, but Freeserve have not changed POP, still going strong.

I have now received help from Mat in the ADSLguide forum who confirmed these settings:

Pop 3 server:
smtp server:

I used the POP & SMTP entries as he suggested and of course OE is now sending and receiving.

I should have known better and used those settings, but I had made a note after installing mailwasher on the original installation post Oct 02. I believe it is mailwasher changing the settings to what I had mentioned in my post.

This thread is now locked and can not be replied to.
