Can anyone recommend a good (i.e. easy to use) free zip utility for a Windows 98 user?

try winzip from the downloads section. you can use the wizard or the classic version.

best of luck

Thanks Never again, but I need a totally free recommendation for a very occasional user - hence it must be freeware and very simple to use?

Go to PC Advisor, Download, Utilities, File Management and download powerdesk 5. Use it instead of Windows Explorer. it has zip and unzip facilities.

huggyg71's third suggestion is the one, Zipcentral is not only good it's totaly free, Read this quote from the license agreement :-
"YOU MAY:
1. Install and use an unlimited number of copies for personal or corporate use".

Why use anything else ?
