Free Space on C:\ Drive

  rosie 11:29 14 Sep 2005

During the past few weeks the amount of space used on my drive has risen from 12 GB to 40 GB although I haven't installed anything of significance. In between times the amount used has fluctuated, sometimes being much less, around 17 GB, and now, today, 40GB. Is there anything I can do to check that nothing is untoward on my computer? I have no spyware, according to Counterspy and Spybot, and no virus, according to Norton.

...Three that I can think of.
1. Is there some sort of diagnostic software running, or has there been recently? - these things can make huge files that sometimes do not get deleted when the program stops.
2. Have you changed the size of your swap file?
3. There could still be some active adware or malware on your system. Try using Ad-Aware in conjunction with Spybot - though not at the same time.

open a command prompt and type chkdsk /f
It will likely ask you if you want to schedule a chkdsk at next startup.
Say yes and reboot
