Free (or cheap) database wanted

  john-m 12:29 26 Jul 2008

For years I've been compiling a database very useful to me, and want to offer it to friends. Snag: I've been using Lotus Approach to hold the data, and it does the job perfectly. But I can't expect everyone else to have that.

I can't get MS Access (which many will have) to do the job the way I want; nor does importing the data into a spreadsheet work well. So: any suggestions for a free database which I could try?

[This replaces my OpenOffice Separate Downloads query - the answer was 'No']

Is there no runtime facility in Lotus that allows other people to run the saved file? People could open and read it but not make changes.
Sometimes you get it under Save As.

Thank you, one and all. That's more than enough for me to be working on for now.
