Hi, when I try and format my NTFS harddrive while using DOS on the UltimateBootCd ( I get the following error message.

##Boot sectore unreadable, disk not yet formatted
Invalid Drive! Aborting
[Error 55]

Whenever I try and do a dir command on the disk I get the following message

divide error, stack:
f84b 4519 0246 0000 15E5 3878 699F 45F5 0000 0800 0000 0000 002C
Why is this happening and how can I get it too work? The harddrive is a 80 Gigabyte Seagate IDE. Thanks in advance.

What O/S have you got? Have you not got a bootable windows CD?

I can get into windows fine. I'm trying to reformat my PC though and I can't do this while the OS is running.

If you have a bootable windows CD, put in the drive, shutdown/restart and when it is restarting select F8 and arrow down to CD/DVD drive. You will then get an option to format with your O/S disc.

Thanks I'll try that now

Assuming you are using XP, Boot with the XP cd and choose the Recovery Console
Type in

format C: /Q

(if it is the c drive you wish to format.) Hit Enter/Return

The drive will format without reinstalling XP

I've tried this and it now gives me a new error.
It comes up with a blue screen and says "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to preven damage to your computer"

Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x0000006F (0xC0000020, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Any Ideas?

I'm using XP so I don't know why I'm getting that error.

Nelmon2k did you try what I said? If so, what happened.

I can't seem to get onto the recovery controls. From what I understand I install it and press r when I am in the setup on the cdrom where it says "Welcome to setup". I don't get this far before my computer gets the error. Am I meant to open the recovery controls in some other way? Thanks.
