Boot with the Win2k CD and follow the instructions - you can format the hdd with that CD.

Just be sure you have all the necessary drivers for your hardware, and keep records of all passwords etc.

By the way, what are the programs? If they will not load onto WinME, then Win2k is unlikely to fare much better. Win2k is an excellent OS, though. I use it for most of my work.

download a win98 start-up floppy (or ME, but i use win98 for any windows)

it will be a zipped file, unzip and save to a floppy disk.

once done, restart your computer with the floppy in the drive. when it loads, you will have a menu on the screen.

choose option 2 (start computer without cd rom support)

when it has finally finished loading you should see

A:>

type D: (this will be a ram drive set up during boot up), the prompt should change to D:>

type format c: (BEFORE PRESSING ENTER, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL THE DATA YOU WANT OFF THE DRIVES, IF YOU PRESS ENTER AND THEN AGREE YOU WILL WIPE THE DRIVE CLEAN)

press enter then accept the warning, and wait.

once finished press enter to name the drive, then restart the computer.

at the menu, choose option 1

wait untill it has finished.

type E: (or the letter of your cdrom drive)

make sure the windows 2000 disk is in the drive then type

setup

that should launch the windows setup.

good luck
