Can anyone tell me how to format a hard drive with XP home on it.I started of with 98SE then bought XP home upgrade in went on with no problems untill I got a virus even though I had enabled the firewall and had an up to date anti virus. ON XP home upgrade their is no repair function so I need to format the hard drive but cant find out how as the CMD does not recognise the commands format C:/ or fdisk, any help would be appreciated.

There is a repair function on the cd. If you boot from the cd (by changing your boot settings in the bios) this will be one of the options available. Otherwise to do a clean install - I usually just use a a win 98/me start-up disc and then fdisk.

In the search box at top of page type Format XP,
with luck you may get your answer.

The repair function will not format the drive, it will just repair XP by re-writing all the files for XP.

You need to delete the XP partition and then create a new one.
