Format pc and installing new windows

Hello

My lenovo, running on window 7 is getting old and slow, and the hard disk is full. Moving all my data to an external hard disk, format the hard disk on the pc, and installing a version of windows 8 I have on disc, would that be a good idea?

Thanks for the help

How old is the pc? Installing a clean OS would speed things up again, since everything will be less 'clogged up' so to speak. But if the pc is starting to get old more modern programs will start to take their toll on the speed of the pc.

Thanks for the reply

It's a lenovo e540, 3 years old.

Your machine woul likely benefit from a good clean out - both hardware and software wise. This can be done without an OS upgrade (which will either require reinstalling software anyway or would not help if the existing software is not refreshed.)

Thanks, for the replies! Which solution do you recommend? Format and reinstall the windows 7 I already have, or a clean out without OS removal?

Thanks

Personally I would go for a full clean install of windows

but be careful of the licensing agreement if your 8 disk has been used on another PC it won't be valid for this machine
