Format harddrive in XP

  albu 16:07 23 Aug 2008

Once before I was able to format my hard drive using the XP CD, but last week I couldn't remember. When I tried it I couldn't?

Any help please on how to format a hard drive using windows XP.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice given.

Are you wanting to re-install the system? If so then installation automatically formats the drive! If it is your 'C' drive with the OS on it, then windows will not let you format the drive for obvious reasons.

You need to boot from the XP CD if you doing a fresh install access the bios and set the first drive

as the CD rom drive, second drive as the hard drive, and the third drive as the floppy drive save

reboot the computer

If you want to do it the hard way, and you have a floppy drive, download the boot disks from microsoft click here create the disks required (6), set to boot from floppy and follow instructions, when you get to the 'Terms and conditions' (Press F8 to continue) press F8 then ESC for advanced options.

Warning... This is a non-reversable procedure and any mistake will stop your machine working.
