Grandaughters old laptop must be about 10 years old. Toshiba satellite with Vista.

She just wants to see if any photos etc on it before we scrap it.

She has tried most of the passwords that she can remember without any luck.

Can open new user part of it and that's about all.

Any quick way of doing this without having to take the bottom off to remove the CMOS battery.

If it's that old then the hard drive should be easily accessible. Why not remove it and connect to another PC via caddy?

Adding 'take ownership' to the context menu might be worth doing if you get any permissions issues, click here

I agree with WhirlingRound for not scrapping it. I was given an old Toshiba Satellite A350 that also has Vista on it. Scrapped the spinner and installed an SSD, added 4GB ram and bought Wn 10 to install. It's running the insider versions and running very well. So for a small investment got a fairly decent laptop. The speakers are harman/kardon with surprisingly good quality and volume.

Hi Lads get back to you shortly. I have visitors. Just moved home a little while back from a 3 bedroom to a 2 bedroom and a lot of things got dumped while we were away. Cant get a hold of any of my tools as they could be anywhere.

That was for W10 64 bit version. Will it still work on vista.

I don't want to install it on my W10 computer can it be sent straight to a CD or DVD.

Always worth having a linux live distro on a CD for old machines or USb stick for machines without a built in DVD.

CAn be used to recoer personal data or even replace system files to repair a non booting windows installation.
