thanks, was thinking more in terms of going into Safe Mode/ User Accounts/ Administrator but not sure how to proceed. Is it same method for Windows 7 as Windows XP?

The Forum Editor recently ruled that the forum members should refrain from giving advice as to how to crack passwords - for obvious reasons. But there is nothing to stop you putting your question into the Search Forum box at the top right of this page - you'll find plenty of postings.

Have you lost your windows 7 password?

Now, we’d commend you a professional Windows password recovery software— Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0 as your reference.

Time: 5 Minute!
Recommend: ?????
Official site: click here

As an easy method to reset Windows 7 password , there are only four steps as follow:

Step1: Download Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0 and install it.
Step2: Burn the ISO image file onto a USB flash drive.
Step3: Boot up your Windows 7 PC by the bootable burned USB in minutes.
Step4: Remove the forgot Windows 7 password on the operation interface and logon PC without password.

Btw, I also know a blog about windows 7 password security. See click here

Ignore the blog site from hecongyan it is a bad site.
WOT gives it a straight Red.

Just the same for W/7 to get into safe mode.

Finally managed to retrieve password using ubantu method suggested by Fruit Bat /\0/\ but took a lot of effort because the root file was denied access, which is where the password access/reset is stored.
Read many forums and relealise W7 64bit is the hardest OS to access.
In the end got lucky, but its not easy! Many thanks for all suggestions much appreciated.
