Floppy disk - failure 40

  Squib 20:02 04 Oct 2003

Put new dvd/cd drive replacement n computer. Got carried away a bit and accidentaly pulled out both plugs in floppy disk.
Replaced plugs as I thought correctly {"A" drive getting plug after twist in ribbon cable} but on boot up Windows ME stops just after detecting new dvd/cd drive with little box----
'Floppy disc(s) fail (40)'
'press F1 to continue or press (forgotten)
to enter setup.'
Pressing F1 allows computer to carry on booting up and work OK. Tried another available power plug(4 pin) with no improvement.
I'm 73 and a bit barmy, so simple English, please.
Any ideas, kind people?
The dvd/cd and another cd/cdr/cdrw are working fine. Only the one old floppy disc.
Thanks for reading, CP

Floppy cable is in upside down. Unplug, turn it over and plug in again.
