Floppy disc drive failing to operate

  gdr721 16:52 29 Dec 2004

I recently uninstalled SP2 which cause many problems, since I reinstalled, most have been corrected but my floppy disc drive fails to recognise when it has a disc inserted.
Can anyone please advise what could be the cause and/or possible corrective action?

Was the disk written on your PC or another one?

Will it recognise any disk?

If not recognising any disk then:

1. power cable loose 2. data cable loose (check both ends). 3. uninstall then re install floppy disk controller in device manager. 4. Floppy drive us replace it approx £7.

Also check in the bios to see if it is enabled

Thank you for your advice.I did re type the line that you recommended, although it was already there, but still the pc doesn't recognise when I put a disc into the drive although properties tell me that its there.

Hi gdr721, while it's possible that SP2 caused the loss of your floppy drive, I think it's very likely that it's just a coincidence. Check that the flexi- cable is securely fitted, try a new cable, and at under £5 try a new drive click here.
