Hi to you all,

I have a monitor problem, well is it I ask myself?
My monitor screen flickers, and is driving me nuts. I've updated the drivers, but this didn't help the problem.
How does one check to see if its the video card, mother board or monitor.
Sometimes the PC justs shuts down.
I have a Pent 4, SP2 installation.
Other than taking my PC down to the local tip, can you please advise?

Sounds like you need to increase the refresh rate

Right click on desktop

choose properties

under settings / advanced somewhere will be the option to change refresh frequency - the exact location depends on your graphics card.

Thanks for your input.

I had already done this, set to 85Hz. The flickering is across the screen.

Can you try a different monitor? Borrow one from a friend if possible?

I have done this, so I know its not the monitor.
The next step is to borrow a video card, but this is not so easy.
Does anyone know where to buy a cheap video card?

this might be silly but have you changed the mains cable.
next check where the monitor is located has someone put or placed something new near it even in another room ie microwave. check the simple things first

Have you checked your Direct X setup?

Set the adapter to default - i used to get the same thing.

Check that your speakers are not too close to the monitor.
If i push my speakers hard up to the sides of my monitor it flickers. Maybe happening to you aswell.

Thanks for your input.
How do I check the direct X settings.
Having now used a spare monitor the system has not chrashed. I put the old monitor back and guess what, the system does not chrash. When the monitor does chrash the screen just breaks up, and the icons just go wild.

I think my head has also crashed, sorry about the spelling...
