Flashing White Line on Bootup

  mackay64 18:59 06 Apr 2009

When I boot my Dell Inspiron laptop, after the initial Dell screen is a flashing white line on the top left of a black screen. This happens for about a minute, and then the laptop boots as normal. it didnt always do this, its only a recent thing, last month or so. I didnt think to ask because it dont bother me too much, but now the times appear to be getting longer and longer. What is it, and what does it mean? Can I get rid of it?
Thank you

I have a similar problem on my computer.
It is a Dell, and it is an Inspiron, but it is not a laptop.

If I go to turn on the computer, a flashing white line will appear on the top left corner, and will stay flashing there. So far, the easiest time I've had being able to boot up the computer when this happens, is by holding down the Esc key while the computer turns on, at which point the Dell startup screen will show up for an instant. When it does, in the top right corner it has two options:
F2 = [I don't remember what it says]
F12 = Bootup menu

I hold down the F12 key, and get a menu of different devices to read memory from. I clicked on my hard disk, and it booted up just fine.

Is there any way that I can bring it back to starting up normally?
